Simeon Stylites

(Symeon; ca. 390–ca. 459/460). Syrian ascetic; began living on pillars (the first ca. 6 ft. high) at ca. 30; built and lived on pillars of increasing height; spent ca. last 30 yrs. of life on a pillar ca. 60 ft. high; exercised considerable influence through preaching and disciples.
