Urbino, It.; to Florence 1504; to Rome after 1508; in service of Julius II (see Popes, 19); protege of Leo X (see Popes, 20); chief architect of St. Peter's, Rome, 1514; conservator of Roman excavations 1515. Works include St. George and the Dragon; Coronation of the Virgin; Sistine Madonna.
