(John Cassian; Massiliensis; Eremita; ca. 360–ca. 345). Monk and theol.; lived among monks of Egypt for a time; ordained deacon by Chrysostom; founded monastery and convent at Marseilles. Opposed Augustine's view of predestination on the one hand and Pelagianism on the other.
