1. David (April 20, 1718–October 9, 1747). B. Haddam, Connecticut; friend of and missionary to Indians. Commissioned by Soc. in Scot. for Propagating Christian Knowledge (see Bible Societies, 3) to work among Indians near Stockbridge, Massachusetts, but chief work was among Indians of Delaware River basin. Memoirs, pub. under titles Mirabilia Dei inter Indicos and Divine Grace Displayed, influenced later missionaries including Henry Martyn and Wm. Carey. 2. John (1720–81). Brother of David; miss. among Indians.
