Because of his poetical gifts he was admitted as a mem. of the Pegnitz Shepherd and Flower Order; poet laureate. Tutor at Wolfenbüttel to the princes of Brunswick-Lüneburg; tutor at various courts. Wrote 52 hymns, including Jesus, I Will Ponder Now and Let Us Ever Walk with Jesus.
