(1841–1925). B. Basel, Switz.; prof. OT at Academy (later U.) Lausanne. Coed. Revue de Théologie et de Philosophie; other works include Histoire de l'Eglise réformée du Pays de Vaud.

Vulpius, Melchior

(Vulpius is Latinization of Ger. Fuchs; ca. 1560/70–1615). Luth. composer; b. Wasungen, near Meiningen, Ger.; cantor Weimar ca. 1596/1602–15. Works include a Passion Oratorio (see Passion, The) based on Mt.; chorale melodies (e.g., “Christus, der ist mein Leben”; “Die helle Sonn' leucht't jetzt herfür”; “Gelobt sei Gott” [also called Vulpius”]; “Jesu Kreuz, Leiden und Pein”; “Lobet den Herrn, ihr Heiden all'”).
