Doctrine of spiritual beings, esp. the Holy* Spirit.


(Gk. “adversaries of the Spirit”). Term applied to all who hold false views of the Holy Spirit; originally used of 4th–c. heretics who denied the deity or personality of the Holy Spirit; condemned by the 381 council at Constantinople.* See also Macedonius.
