(1825–89). Composer; ed. of ch. music and related works; b. London, Eng.; educ. Oxford; ordained 1849; curate London; prof. music Oxford and priest and precentor Hereford cathedral 1855; vicar St. Michael's, Tenbury, and warden St. Michael's Coll. there 1856. Ed. sacred music of O. Gibbons.* Other works include The Martyrdom of St. Polycarp (cantata); Hagar (oratorio); anthems; hymn tunes include “Aberystwyth” (called “Tenbury” by some).
