B. perhaps Hainbach, near Langenstein, Hesse; outstanding scholar; lectured on nominalist philos. at Paris 1363; supported council over pope (see Councils and Synods, 7); driven from Paris; became mystic-ascetic writer and defender of papacy; prof. Vienna 1384. Wrote encyclopedic, soc., exegetic, and dogmatic works.
