(1656–1730). Educ. Oxford; sent by bp. Compton of London to hello order ch. affairs in Maryland; arrived 1700; tried to est. library in each parish; founder of SPCK and SPG; works include Bibliotheca catechetica; Bibliotheca parochialis; Papal Usurpation and Persecution (often called Martyrology).
