Björk, Eric Tobias

(ca. 1668–1740). B. Westmanland. Swed.; ordained Uppsala; arrived Am. June 24, 1697, with Jonas Aureen and A. Rudman* to serve Swedes on Delaware. Under his pastoral leadership Swedes Lutheran Church, called Trinity Church (Old Swedes Church, Wilmington, Delaware), was built; dedicated June 4, 1699. Recalled to Swed.; left Am. June 29, 1714. Björnson, Björnstjerne

(1832–1910). Norw. novelist, poet, dramatist. Early writings sought to demonstrate ethical power of Christianity; influenced by Grundtvig*; opposed Ger. pietism; later turned from Christianity to positivism and naturalism; believed in triumph of good.

Björling, Carl O.

(1804–84). Swed. theol.; educ. Uppsala; bp. Västeraas; wrote a Christian dogmatics and other works which show his loyalty to the AC.
