Visited deaconess mother houses in Eur. 1888, and his report led to founding Deaconess Motherhouse, Baltimore, Maryland, 1895 (see also Deaconesses, 8). Helped found FCC. Wrote the Germanicus letters in (The) Lutheran Observer; issued Der Sonntagsgast 18721932; other works include an order of worship.
