Toplady, Augustus Montague

(1740–78). Hymnist; b. Farnham, Surrey, Eng.; educ. Dublin, Ireland; ordained Angl. 1762; vicar Broadhembury (or Broad Hembury), Devonshire, Eng.; minister of the Chapel of the Fr. Calvinists in Leicester Fields ca. 1776. Hymns include “Rock of Ages.”
