Pastor Canal Winchester, Ohio, 1874; Detroit, Michigan, 1882; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1885; Anna, Ohio, 1912–23. Pres. Capital U. (elected 1900; resigned 1901). Pres. Western Dist. of The Ev. Luth. Joint Syn. of Ohio* and Other States 1923. Works include The Life of Louis Harms; Catechisations on Luther's Small Catechism; Lakeside Lectures on the Gospel Ministry; Sixteenth Century Reformation and the Lodge.
