There is no need of a NT priesthood to offer sacrifice for sin as did the OT priesthood (Heb 7:2028; Heb 10:814). All believers constitute a universal spiritual priesthood (Eph 2:14, 18; Heb 10:1922; 1 Ptr 2:9; Rv 1:6; 5:10), which is to offer itself to God (Ro 12:1; Heb 13:15) and into whose charge Christ has given all rights and powers of His kingdom (Mt 18:1820; 1 Co 3:2123). To all believers belongs the right to select and call ministers (Acts 1:1526; 6:16), whom God has chosen and appointed (Acts 13:24; 1 Co 12:28; Eph 4:1112), and to set them apart through ordination (Acts 14:23) to be servants of Christ and His ch. (2 Co 4:5) in preaching the Word and administering the sacraments (1 Co 4:1; 2 Ti 4:2; Tts 1:9). See also Keys, Office of the.
