Type of nature worship in which generative powers as symbolized in the penis, or phallus, are worshiped; common among primitive peoples and usually assoc. with fertility cults, but found also among such more advanced peoples as Phoenicians and Greeks; in many cases assoc. ceremonies are orgiastic.
