Alleged art of bringing about supernatural results by means of occult agencies, conjurations, and malevolent or benevolent incantations. Among primitive races magic and superstition play a significant role, as in voodooism.* Magic was practiced from ancient times in many countries. The Bible opposes magic; e.g., Ex 22:18; Acts 19:1319. See also Amulets; Primitive Religion.
