Neapolitan; elected pope (now gen. regarded antipope) 1410 at Bologna by cardinals who honored the action of the Council of Pisa*; convoked the Council of Constance*; promised to resign if Gregory* XII and Benedict XIII (see Benedict XIII, 1) would do likewise; fled March 1415 when his sincerity became suspect; suspended, imprisoned, and deposed May 1415; released ca. 1418; bp. Tusculum (Frascati), It., 1419.
