The methods and ideas of the Chautauqua movement are traceable to the Chatauqua Lake Sunday School Assembly and its first season at Chautauqua Lake, New York, August 418, 1874. The program was soon enlarged to include all branches of popular educ., presented in a variety of courses, lectures, religious addresses, entertainments, and concerts.
