Cologne, Reims, Tours; head of cathedral school at Reims and overseer of diocesan schools 1057; chancellor diocese 1075; deposed and forced to flee by archbishop Manasses; returned after Manasses' deposition 1080 but soon withdrew to mountains near Grenoble and founded Carthusian* order.
