Bonar, Horatius

(1808–89). B. Edinburgh; ordained in the Est. Ch. of Scot. at Kelso 1837; joined Free Ch. of Scot. at its beginning 1843; pastor Chalmers Mem. Ch., Edinburgh, 1866. Hymnist; even before his ch. authorized hymn singing he pub. 7 tracts of hymns; wrote “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say” and “I Lay My Sins on Jesus.”
