“Away in a Manager.”

An American Christmas carol; M. Luther* wrote neither the words nor the music. Apparently originated in Pennsylvania in the 1880s; the Ger. form, “So arm in der Krippe,” seems to be the tr. Author, tr., and composer are unknown, though various ascriptions have been made. LP

R. S. Hill, “Not So Far Away in a Manger,” Music Library Association Notes, 2d Series, III, 1 (December 1945), 12–36.
