Coll., Cambridge, 1834; vicar Wymeswold, Leicestershire, 1835–53; lectured at Cambridge 1841–42; served a large cong. at Quebec Chapel, Marylebone, London, 1853–57; dean of Canterbury 1857; poet. First ed. The Contemporary Review 1866–70; hymns include “Ten Thousand Times Ten Thousand” and “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come”; other works include How to Study the New Testament; The State of the Blessed Dead; ed. The New Testament for English Readers and The Greek Testament. See also Metaphysical Society, The.
