(Wolf; 1679–1754). Ger. philos.; b. Breslau; prof. math. and nat. philos. Halle 1707; deposed 1723 and banished from Prussia through influence of Halle Pietists; to Marburg; later recalled to Halle. Adopted theories of G. W. v. Leibniz*; coined term monism*. Though he accepted revelation, reason was his final authority.
