Uchimura, Kanzo

(Kanso Utschimura; 1861–1930). Indep. Christian leader in Jap.; mem. warrior class (samurai); converted 1878; studied at Amherst (Massachusetts) Coll.; founded Non-Ch. Movement (popularly so called not because he opposed the ch. [he didn't] but because he rejected for. denominationalism and promoted a Jap. form of Christianity.
