Flemish layman; itinerant preacher Sjaelland (Zealand), Antwerp, and Brugge (Bruges); denounced sacraments of the ch.; opposed lazy and immoral priests; persuaded many that they would be conformed to Christ by asceticism; followers called Tanchelmians.
