Branch of doctrinal theol. that deals with salvation by divine agency. In Luth. theol.: the Bible doctrine concerning the application of the merits of Christ to the individual sinner, whereby the sinner is led to the actual possession and enjoyment of the blessings which Christ has procured for all mankind.
