Sem.; ordained 1821 The Ev. Luth. Syn. of Maryland, Virginia, and so forth (see United Lutheran Church in America, The, Synods of, 11, 29); served the parish in and around New Market, Virginia, up to 1826; began to prepare students for the ministry in the early 1820s; 1st prof. Luth. Theol. Sem., Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, from 1825/26; resigned 1864; helped found Gettysburg* Coll.
