Svebilius, Olavus

(Olof Jöransson; 1624–1700). Luth. abp. Swed. 1681. Educ. Uppsala; headmaster Kalmar classical high school and court preacher Kalmar 1656; pastor Ljungby 1659; chief court chaplain Stockholm 1668; chief pastor and pres. of consistory Stockholm 1671. Helped rev. service book, hymnal, and catechism.

Sveinsson, Brynjulf

(Bryniulf; Brynjúlfur; 1605–75). Bp. Skálholt diocese, Iceland; discovered the Poetic Edda (see Eddas), also called Elder Edda, ca. 1643 and called it Edda Saemundi multiscii (after Saemund Sigfusson [ca. 1055–1132], scion of the royal house of Norw., who was thus credited with collecting these poems).

Friends of Augsburg 1894–97 (see also Lutheran Free Church). Ed. Folkebladet and other Norw. theol. periodicals.
