(June 26, 1850–January 21, 1941). B. Cherryville, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania; educ. Lutheran Theol. Sem., Philadelphia; pastor Quakertown, Pennsylvania, 1874–93; organizer and rector Luth. Deaconess Motherhouse at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1893–98; city miss. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1899–1930, supt. 1903–30. Active in prison reform work. Hymnist; liturgist.
