Faction in O. Cromwell's* army with radical ideas on govt. and religion. In religion they sought freedom of conscience and liberty for everyone to act acc. to his best knowledge; religion has 2 sides, or aspects: (a) right understanding of revelation (and this is a private matter), (b) works of righteousness and mercy (subject to approval by mankind, esp. authorities); all controversy about religious faith and practice is wrong.
