Kobe, Jap.; Presb. evangelist and soc. reformer; studied theol. in Jap., sociol. in US; founded 1st Labor Federation in Jap. 1918, also Peasant Union 1921, Anti-War League 1928, Kingdom of God Movement 1930. Works include The Religion of Jesus; Christ and Japan; Songs from the Slums; The Two Kingdoms.
