Erlangen and Dorpat (Tartu); private tutor 1853–55; to Am. 1855; pastor New Orleans, Louisiana, 1856–68; taught in New Orleans at Lutheran academy 1868, Select School ca. 1878, Progymnasium 1881–86; to St. Louis, Missouri, 1886; edited Saint Louis ed. of M. Luther's* works 1886–1911.
