Homoousios

(Gk. “of one substance”). Term used in the Nicene Creed (see Ecumenical Creeds, B) to state Christian faith that the Son is of one substance with the Father. See also Antioch, Synods of; Arianism, 2–3; Athanasius; Homoios; Homoiousios; Nicaea, Councils of, 1.
