(September 15, 1865–October 29, 1936). B. Romsdal, Nor.; to Am. 1871; educ. U. of Minnesota, Johns Hopkins, Heidelberg, Oslo, and Berlin; prof. St. Ansgar (iowa) Sem. 1893–95, Glenwood (Minnesota) Academy 1900–02, Luther Coll., Decorah, Iowa 1902–16, 1917–36; pres. Park Region Luther Coll., Fergus Falls, Minnesota, 1916–17; helped found Norw.-Am. Hist. Assoc.; curator Norw. Am. Hist. Museum; vice-pres., later pres., Iowa Hist. Assoc. Works include histories of Scand. countries and people.

Gjevre, Anders Haldorsen

(June 9, 1852–April 29, 1930). B. Vang, Valdres, Norw.; to Am. 1871; Luth. clergyman, ordained Norw. Syn. 1881 (see Evangelical Lutheran Church, The, 8–13); studied Heb. by correspondence under W. R. Harper*; attended Columbia U. 1902–03; pastor of various parishes in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin 1881–1913; prof. Heb., United Ch. Sem., 1897–98; miss. to Jews, New York, 1900–03, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1913–30. Works include The Jewish Problem and Its Solution.
