Valencia 1429; cardinal 1444; attempted (unsuccessfully) a crusade to recover Constantinople from the Turks; in 1457 he ordered universal observance on August 6 of the ancient Feast of the Transfiguration (see Church Year, 16) to commemorate victory over Turks at Belgrade August 6, 1456.
