Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; pastor St. Paul Eng. Luth. Ch. 1849–73 and Luther Place Memorial Ch. 1873–1909, both in Washington, D. C.; chaplain 5th regt. Pennsylvania Volunteers, in Civil War; appointed hosp. chaplain by A. Lincoln; chaplain US House of Representatives and Senate
