(Adler; 1488–1560). B. Augsburg; d. Saalfeld. Educ. Leipzig and Wittenberg. Pastor at Jengen, near Augsburg. Drawn to the Reformation by Luther's writings. In prison at Dillingen. Helped Luther tr. OT ;at Wittenberg. Pastor (1527) and Supt. (1528) at Saalfeld; dean Collegiate Inst., Schmalkalden, 1550. Engaged in controversy with Agricola, Osiander, and Major. See also Sickingen, Franz von.
